Fans rally to save New Haven Coliseum

(New Haven-WTNH, May 9, 2002 5:50 PM) _ New Haven sports fans are making their message loud and clear. About 50 people marched to City Hall to tell the mayor to keep the New Haven Coliseum.

The fans know the coliseum's future is in jeopardy.

The city contends that the building is losing money. Mayor John DeStefano told News Channel 8 there's a money crunch and he has some tough decisions to make, which could mean the demolition of the sporting venue.

For these fans and others it's not a good option. Their hockey team, the New Haven Knights, will only continue play if sold, but the sale won't happen if there's no place for the team to play.

Mayor DeStefano says he hopes to have a decision within a month and at that time he'll know what to do about commitments the coliseum already has for the future.
