Alderman suggests referendum on coliseum demolition

A local politician wants to give the choice about the planned New Haven Coliseum demolition to the voters.

Beaver Hills Alderman Brian Jenkins is proposing holding a referendum on the demolition.

He's also suggesting a second study on the coliseum's future, because the first study didn't include city residents' input.

City officials paid consulting firm Scillia Dowling Natarelli Advisors more than 49-thousand dollars for a study to justify closing the Coliseum. The study concluded it would cost $50 million to operate the venue for another decade, but only $21.4 million to shut it down.
